Getting Through a Bad Day Without Smoking
Every one of us has got a bad day once in a while. Smokers tend to deal with bad days by smoking a lot more than they usually do. After one quits smoking that option is no longer available as long as one wants to stay as an ex smoker. An alternative method of coping through a bad day is needed, because bad days are usually excellent excuses for giving up and starting smoking again. I know this, because I have myself used that excuse too many times.
Yesterday was a very bad day for me. Yet, I did not smoke any cigarettes. My internal addict was trying its best, but it did not really have a chance. This time I showed to it that I am in charge here. Since I know by experience that bad days are good excuses for starting smoking again, I wanted to share the technique I used with my readers. It consists of understanding two things:
It is perfectly normal to have a bad day. Both smokers and nonsmokers have bad days. The fact that you are having a bad day right now does not have got anything to do with the fact that you have stopped smoking. Do not believe your internal addict, who wants to convince you that you are having a bad day, because you are not smoking tobacco. If people, who have never smoked a single cigarette in their life, can have bad days, it is obvious that bad days are not caused by smoking cessation. After you have realized this, it will be obvious that
Smoking does not change a bad day to a good day. Your addiction makes you believe (at least on some level) that smoking would make your day better. This is a lie. Because the fact that you are not smoking at the moment is not the reason, why you are having a bad day, smoking a cigarette cannot simply make your day any better. In fact, if you give up and smoke a cigarette, you will feel worse afterwards. You will realize that you are still having a bad day. You will understand that you have just delivered a nicotine shipment to your internal addict. Remember, there is no such thing as only one cigarette. When you realize what you have done, it is very likely that you will smoke a second cigarette to get over it. Suddenly, you are smoking again. DO NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE! Instead, identify the trap set by your internal addict and disarm it. How? Just continue reading, and find out how I disarmed the trap.
After I realized these facts, I knew immediately that I will not smoke a cigarette. Instead, I decided to cheer myself up by exercising. Trust me when I say that it was extremely hard to motivate myself, but after the exercise I was so happy that I succeeded. In the end, I did not need tobacco to make my day better. Exercising did the job much better than smoking ever could. Try it out yourself, and you will find out that I was telling you the truth.
